If we compare the cost of living to Dublin, Cork is much more affordable, including rents, food, and entertainment.

The most commonly used transportation for getting around the city is by bicycle, although it’s a city that you can explore on foot.

There are also urban and intercity buses, and a well-connected train service to the capital, which is about 250 km away.

The climate, like the rest of Ireland, is quite cold and rainy throughout the year.

Regarding educational and employment opportunities, you won’t be lacking in either courses or work in this wonderful city, although it’s true that the majority are in Dublin.

What are the best neighborhoods in Cork?

The Center

It is the liveliest area of the city and the closest to most of the schools, shopping areas, pubs, and restaurants.

Douglas

It is located about 15 - 20 minutes' walk from the city center, and it's a very peaceful area, perfect if you prefer a residential neighborhood. Rents in this area are somewhat higher than in other parts of the city.

BlackRock

It's a relatively new and peaceful area with a lot of natural beauty and beautiful landscapes. It's close to BlackRock Castle and the Mahon Point shopping center. It's about a half-hour walk from the city center, but you won't be lacking anything in this neighborhood.

Coming to live, work, and study in Ireland is very different if you are a European citizen or not.

If you do not have nationality in one of the EU member countries, you will not be able to work for the first 3 months of your stay in the country, at which point you can apply for your IRP.
