Requirements to Work in United Kingdom

When do I need a visa to study in the UK?

If you come to study a course of less than 6 months in duration and you live in Spain, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, or Uruguay, you do not need a visa. They will stamp your passport when you land at the airport.

If your nationality is Colombian or Peruvian, you will need a visa in all cases to enter the United Kingdom.

Standard Visitor Visa

This is the standard visitor visa, which is required only if you are from Colombia or Peru. It allows you to study a course of up to 6 months in duration.

You cannot work, and after the duration, you must leave the country.

Short-Term Study Visa

If you come to study a course of up to 11 months in duration, regardless of your nationality, you must apply for this visa.

This visa will not allow you to work in the UK, although you can engage in volunteer work if you wish, of course, without being paid.

It is the recommended visa if you come to study an English course in the UK.

Student Visa

The Student Visa will allow you to study any Higher Education course in the United Kingdom.

To apply for it, you need a minimum English level of B2 and to be over 16 years old.

With this visa, you can work only in the following cases:

Part-time during the course you choose, and full-time during vacations, as long as it's a degree or higher-level course.

10 hours per week during the course and full-time during vacations if it's an official course below the degree level.

In other cases, you will not be allowed to work.

Requirements to obtain a student visa in the UK

To apply for a UK student visa, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Have a valid passport for the entire duration of your stay.
  • Present the acceptance letter from the school where you have enrolled (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies).
  • You must also provide proof of payment for your course.
  • Demonstrate that you have the necessary funds to support yourself in the country throughout your stay, which is £1,334 per month if you are studying in London or £1,023 per month if you are going to another city.
  • You are required to purchase travel medical insurance to come to the UK.
  • You must prove your identity through a biometric test.
  • Have no criminal record.
  • All your documents must be translated into English.

The Minimum Wage in the United Kingdom depends on your age and whether you have apprentice status or not. The legal minimum working age in the UK is 16 years.

So, the minimum wage table in England is as follows:
