Requirements to Work in Ireland

If you are a European citizen

If you are a citizen of any of the European Union member countries, for example, Spain, you can work in Ireland without restrictions, as if it were your own country.

You will only need your ID card and the European Health Insurance Card.

If you are Argentine, Mexican, or Chilean

If you have any of these nationalities, you do not need to apply for a visa before traveling, as your passport will be stamped upon arrival in Ireland.

However, you will not be able to work until you have obtained your IRP (Irish Residence Permit).

To obtain it, you must have enrolled in a course of at least 25 weeks in duration, and once you have it, you can work part-time while studying.

If you come from another country

You will need to process your visa before traveling to Ireland. Additionally, you are obligated to purchase travel health insurance for your trip.

To process your visa, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Have a valid passport for the entire duration of your stay
  • Possess the acceptance letter from the school, which will be provided once you have enrolled in a course lasting 25 weeks or more
  • Proof of course payment
  • Pay the student visa fee (around €300)
  • Mandatory travel health insurance
  • Demonstrate that you have sufficient financial means to support yourself throughout your stay (a minimum of €500 per month)

How much is charged in Ireland?

The Interprofessional Minimum Wage in Ireland is around €1,400 per month, and the average salary is €3,890 per month.

One of the significant advantages of working in Ireland while studying is that even with an unskilled job, you can comfortably support yourself throughout your stay.

The most in-demand unskilled jobs in Ireland include hospitality, restocking or cashiering in a supermarket, working as an au pair, or assisting in a store.

As for qualified jobs, the information technology and new technologies sector stand out, but to access these positions, you will need a high level of English.

Why work in Ireland?

1. You will improve your level of English

The official language in Ireland is English, so if you come to study English in Ireland while working, it will be very beneficial for practicing and improving your language skills.

2. There is plenty of work

In Ireland, job offers are abundant, especially in unskilled jobs such as delivery driver, waiter, or dishwasher, and for these jobs, English is not an indispensable requirement.

3. If you live in Europe, you don't need a visa to live and work in Ireland

Being one of the member countries of the European Union, if you have Spanish nationality or nationality from another EU country, you can travel to Ireland with just your ID card, without needing any type of visa.

You can stay here for as long as you want, study and work, as if you were in your home country.

4. If you are European, the flight will be very affordable

Another great advantage if you live in Spain or another European country is that flights to Ireland will be really inexpensive, much more so than to other destinations like Australia or Canada.
