Requirements to Work in Malta

If you are a European citizen

If you are a citizen of any of the European Union member countries, for example, Spain, you can work in Ireland without restrictions, as if it were your own country.

You will only need your ID card and the European Health Insurance Card.

If you are not a European citizen

If you are traveling from a country in LATAM (or any other destination that is not a member of the European Union), you will need to meet certain requirements:

  • You must enroll in a course with a duration of at least 6 months.
  • You can apply for your ID Card after 3 months of staying in the country, not before, so you will need to be able to support yourself during that time.
  • To demonstrate your financial solvency, you will be required to provide a bank statement showing a minimum of €4,000 for your stay.
  • You will need to provide the address of your accommodation in Malta.
  • You must have a passport that is valid for the entire duration of your stay.
  • You must purchase Medical Insurance for your trip to Malta.

How is the salary in Malta?

The Interprofessional Minimum Wage in Malta is €777 per month. The average salary is around €24,500 per year.

What you will earn while studying in Malta will largely depend on whether it’s a skilled job or not, and the city where you work.

During the peak tourist season, there are plenty of jobs in the hospitality industry, although it can be quite demanding, and the pay isn’t too high, around €3.50 per hour.

However, if you come to work in a skilled job, your salary can range from €25,000 to €30,000 per year.

In any case, the cost of living in Malta is not too high compared to other European countries and other English language study destinations, so you should be able to sustain yourself in Malta without any problem.

Why work in Malta?

1. The Weather

Malta is a place where it never gets cold. Being a small island, its climate is mild throughout the year, and it is completely surrounded by some of the best beaches in all of Europe.

2. The quality and cost of living

Malta is a country with excellent quality of life, and furthermore, rents and the cost of living in general are much lower than in other English-speaking destinations.

3. If you live in Europe, you do not need a visa to live and work in Malta

As one of the European Union member countries, if you have Spanish nationality or are from another EU country, you can travel to Malta with just your ID card, without needing any type of visa.

You can stay here for as long as you want, study, and work, as if you were in your home country.

4. There is work year-round

"Malta is very touristy, and you will find work at any time of the year. During the high season, you won't be short of jobs in the hospitality sector, and during the low season, you can work part-time without any problem in this sector.

If you are a professional in information technology, digital marketing, or a similar field, you will find a job for sure in Malta."
